summer fun

my brother BG just sent me those wonderful photos from a epic trip in last Summer... so wonderful and so much fun! I really enjoy the adventure, the search, the hunt and the gathering (of course) with BG, Grizz and Andy! I think I am moving my focus to Idaho and Oregon... let's do that again... different rivers and different fish, of course! Check out BG's wonderful website LINK!

Read a bit history of the intruder fly: by Scott Howell
“GO BIG OR GO HOME”
It is impossible to start a piece on the Intruder without going into a bit of the history of the fly. My Signature Series Intruder was not a simple case of sitting down at the vice one evening and creating this revolutionary pattern. It all started way back in the early 90’s with a circle of guides at a lodge in Alaska. The first “Intruder-style” fly was the brainchild of Ed Ward, and was originally designed for king salmon. This shank-style fly was a solution for creating huge plug-like silhouettes that could simply not be achieved on conventional fly hooks. While fishing these flies for kings, it was impossible not to notice how well Alaska’s huge rainbows took these large life-like patterns. And, it didn't take long for the light bulb to go on, “If these big rainbows can’t resist them, just think of how well they might work for their anadromous cousins (steelhead).”
It was not for another couple months after a grueling summer of guiding that we first got to swim these new patterns in water inhabited by steelhead. That September, Ed Ward, Jerry French and myself crammed into a truck and headed for BC with my drift boat in tow. Despite being faced with very low water conditions that trip...

read the nature and digest it slowly

It has been a amazing Spring to me,although we had just experienced the coldest weather during the past 25 years. The season switches just in a blink of eye. Now, the birds (house finches and eastern bluebirds)are fully in their breeding speed, and the trees are already in it's power green mode. I am doing some field research again this year, really, this is a wonderful treat to me to be able to depart from the lab, make a excuse and walk in the woods just made me feel so good. I feel being part of the land again. All the good green power reminded me a lot of my student life,it's a book about camping and living in the mountains! Camping in a woods, sleep under big trees with camp fire, and watched the stars shining through the canopy is just the best 5 star bed. It make me feel comfortable as if I am in the womb. There is no lie. I love living in the mountains! There are so much creatures to see, so much things to learn. And if I do learn, they are some secret to tell from the forest. I do learn something from the woods of Alabama, the dogwoods bloom and the striped bass will run. I am anticipated in this wonderful season and enjoy every bit of it! : )
Side note:I think I should write my fishing/ outing report more often, it will remind me all the good times! The idea of writing is inspired by a wonderful website - Slow Fishing - Check out Yun's awesome photos and reports! LINK

Mr. FlyFisher - Vlad

My friend Vlad is a amazing fly fisherman. He is one of the Mr. FlyFishers that I am fortunately to know of. Fly design, fly tying, rod building, bass or trout, fiberglass or graphite, salt and freshwater... He pretty much do everything and do it in a extremely elegant way. When he is not being a Mr. Fly Fisher, he is a Mr. Professor teaching another style of elegant rhythm - Jazz composing. No wonder I always see some kind of beautiful flow in his rod building work : ) See what he just sent me... an really awesome striper fly! Thank you Brother! Check out the blog! LINK
