Coastal birding trip!

Just got back from a birding trip to Gulf Mexico. It was a fabulous birding trip with students! Lot's lot's of shorebirds, out of my head there were cute little least sandpipers, tons of dunlings, semipaml sandpipers, sanderlings, willet, oystercatchers... birds of the day would be a handsome swallowtail kite! All my good ol birding memories start to crawing back! Great to go out indeed!

Oops... the spots run away...

Pen and Ink are so fun and quick... I decided to add more quick strokes of watercolor. They somehow merge together pretty well and created some unexpredictable results... just like a Jazz band... : ) I like it!

SUWA LAKE JAPAN

A friend of mine just sent this photo to me. It's lot's of snow in Japan this year. Amazing! I visit this lake in the early summmer 2007. And it was a big body of water full of trout! I guess now the trout are happily swim underneath the ice and never need to worry about dry fly, nymph fly, streamer...whatsoever... : ) Indeed, it is hard for Alabamian to imagine a frozen lake... : P

Dug out antique reel seat!

I just realized I have several antique cooper reel seats that I purchased long times ago form the evil bay. Awesome... might use them for the new coming projects!

Art 2 - Degas

No, I don't dance... but I enjoy Degas's dancer and figure drawing a lot!It is amazing how he creat the certain atmosphere with pastel... He said he is not a impressionist, I agree... but he is the founder of the impression era... no doubt! all about the atmosphere! I was stunned with his work! He probably is the top 3 most influencial artists in my life... : ) well... probably not very important to know... because I am Not famous... yet! Ha... Flyfishing, Art and Music... all share the same essence... beauty and joy! To me. More information in the online resources http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/dgsp/hd_dgsp.htm

Art

I visited the museum d'Orsay in 2003. That was a fantastic trip in Paris... that was for a bird coloration meeting. Back then, I was just a newbie in the famous lab. So... following my master around and got some good treats is my trick! That is all what I did...
For the art in the musee d'Orsay, it is hard to describe the feel just "one arm distance" from the famous paintings... van Gogh, Monet, Degas... are all my favorite impressionists... Be honest with you... I don't know much about the art... but who cares... I enjoy viewing it! a lot! The real paintings are just different from the prints... it's like the difference between live convert and studio. The color, the tonal shifting... ,and most important, the people in the museum with you! Here is some old photos I just dug out...

Extreme fishing is not for Korkers

I did "somehow" fish very intensely with Bryan...He is the most hard core FlyFisherman and ice core Ski Boarder I have ever seen! Check his blog to see what happened in his wading boots...http://utahcutthroat.blogspot.com/2008/03/product-review-korkers-streaborn.html

Seeing Rhythm In The Rods

http://musicarskikafe.blogspot.com/

Usually, I am not a big fan of fancy/beautiful/ and "carefully decorated" fly rods. Everything can cast a fly well is equally good to me. However this "practical instinct" doesn't apply to my love of fiberglass fly rod. I was totally shocked when I saw Vlad's hand crafted rods. They are unique and beautiful, and most important, to me, I see RHYTHM and SMOOTH flow in them. Those elegant elements match the fiberglass rod perfectly. If you fish fiberglass rod, you will understand what I am saying about Rhythm and Elagant! : ) Here is some expample photos from Vlad's website. Enjoy! ...I will be collecting his rods soon :o)

sneak in TROUT UNDERGROUND

Hey Friends,
It is a great honor to yuhina that YUHINA ILLUSTRATION sneak in the well-known UNDERGROUND! I have been a seaker reader in THE TROUT UNDERGROUND society for a long time. I really LOVE Tom's writings, fun and in-depth. It is such a great honor to me that he point out my artworks. I smile the whole weekend! : ) (I know I smile all the time, but this is a big smile :O)

BTW, YUHINA ILLUSTRATION was in the MOLDY CHUM last month. It was a BIG smile too. I really appreciate people's kind words about my paintings! I have to say it really make me feel good that people understand what I am doing, painting, photogrphy, and most important... the research. (BOOYA!)

We all paint fish!

This is true! No joke. Alexis even paint some fabulous modern art. In a sweet 16 party!

Pastel Peacock Bass

I was inspired by one of my favorite artist - Edgar Degas. I saw his work in the Odyssey Museum in Paris, I was totally shocked by his work! He use a lot of Pastel in his later work to draw body figures. I thought it might be good to try out some new technique in my fish drawing... it turns out OK...lot's of messy powder : P
